“Bright Light on a Stormy Day”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago
Here I am again telling all who will listen, that the Bluebird B&B is the very best that we have stayed in during our travels around Canada. It is an injustice that it is rated # 3 out of the the B&B’s and inns in the Midland area. I find that very hard to understand. We endured a long drive down the rainsoaked and wind tossed highways from the Temagami area last week, and my heartbeat always calms down, and my spirit lifts as I turn on to the country road with its canopy of stately Maple trees that leads to the Bluebird. it didn’t surprise me that the sun started to shine once again, as we drove down Donna and Larry’s lane. We had spent three weeks in Newfoundland the previous month, and stayed in B&B’s there exclusively for two weeks of our visit. Even though we stayed in some wonderful places, and met some typically friendly Newfoundlanders, nothing came close to matching the friendliness, cleanliness, comfort, attention to detail, and the incredible breakfasts that Donna consistently provides. I sometimes find it hard to sleep at night in anticipation of what she will place in front of us the next morning. (Just like a kid on Christmas Eve) On this ocassion, we started with a warm, freshly baked zuchinni loaf with homemade jams, followed by hand peeled red grapefruit in a lemon yogurt that tasted like a fine fruit creamsicle, then “the main course” was eggs benedict with steamed baby spinach, on a bed of potato crisp, and Canadian bacon, with sliced cherry tomatoes on the side. There was more! We had a wonderful apple crisp topped with whipped cream for dessert! All of this with what tasted like the most wonderful fresh squeezed orange juice, and my own little pot of tea. (Donna remembers my beverage preferences as we visit twice a year) I always think I should photograph the meals in order to enter them into a food magazine. Anyway, you get the picture. (get it?) Don’t delay any longer. If you are just looking for a two night get-a-way from the hussle and bussle of the city, or you might be visiting the sites around Midland, stay here. IT IS THE VERY BEST!
