Rose -breasted Grosbeaks !

In Spring and early summer, it is hard to miss the very vocal lovely melodious call of the Rose breasted Grosbeak.  It almost sounds like a robin’s song but speeded up and more musical.  Both male and females sing.  Rose-breased Grosbeaks usally migrate at night and they can be difficult to spot.  Here at Bluebird Meadows B&B they are numerous and easy to see, lining up for their turn at the black oil sunflower seed feeders.  Both attentive parents raise their clutch of 3-5 chicks.  The female looks nothing like her glamed up mate, dressed in shades of brown with a bold off-white eyebrow and a streaked breast she resembles a female purple finch in colour.

We wish to thank Peter Rice a regular guest at the B&B for providing this great photograph.
